How To Complete Your RSA Online
Excessive alcohol consumption has a long history of providing the world with many problems. Research shows that too much alcohol has negative repercussions on the
human body, not to mention the many dangers it can pose for other people. Because of this, Australia has finally taken action to make sure that places licensed to sell alcohol and their staff bear legal responsibilities in serving alcoholic beverages. The Responsible Service of Alcohol Certification, or RSA, and the RSA courses now available such as RSA Online, are a breath of fresh air for the nation.
Where Can You Do Your RSA Online?
If you want to complete your RSA Online in Sydney then checkout this training provider. Interstate certifications are still not accepted in NSW, and this includes certificates completed online, so make sure you choose a company (like the one above) who are located in NSW and are accredited by the government.
Who has to complete an RSA course?
Most states and territories in Australia now require the following employees to undergo RSA courses and get certified before being allowed to handle and serve alcohol:
all staff involved in the sale, supply and service of alcohol, including but not limited to
- bar staff
- floor staff
- promotional staff hired by a venue
- security guards involvd with crowd control
- licensees
- volunteers who have liquor service responsibilities
Regulations and RSA course requirements vary according to each state, but some states have a Nationally Accredited Course available for training purposes. There are many different companies that are able to provide recognized RSA certifications and the ability to complete the RSA Online.
What is RSA Online Training?
RSA Online is a training that aims to provide a full RSA course for people seeking to complete training and obtain an RSA certificate. RSA Online is a virtual course,
meaning anyone can take it at anytime. Unlike face-to-face training programs, RSA Online offers an easy, hassle-free way to go through a course, without the need to travel physical distances or show up for scheduled classes. With RSA Online, trainees can log in and complete the course at their own pace and in their own time with the help of convenient, easy-to-use multimedia instructions.
Which States in Australia Accept an RSA Online Certificate?
Upon completion of a course, a trainee can then download and print his or her RSA Certificates. RSA Online gives can give two certificates: one OLGR approved which is accepted in QLD (conditions apply), and a National Statement of Attainment accepted in WA, NT and SA. NSW also now accept online certification, however they don’t accept interstate online certificates so make sure you choose a company who are accredited in Sydney (like the one recommended on this site)
How Much Does an RSA
Certificate Cost?
An RSA Online Course generally costs between $50-$80 depending on the training provider you choose to use. Make sure you have a look around to compare prices between companies and always ensure they are recognised by the appropriate authorities.
Responsibility begins with RSA Online, and when the people in charge of distributing liquor have taken on this responsibility, the problems regarding excessive alcohol consumption can hopefully be lessened.
Can I do the RSA course online? I live in NSW
Hi Bigi,
Unfortunately if you live in NSW you can’t do your RSA Course Online. The NSW government has not yet approved this course, therefore you have to attend a classroom based course. For more information, check out this link http://www.rsacourseinfo.com/rsa-nsw/
Hope this has helped!
Hallo, Can you do the RSA licence online for Victoria. Thanks
Hi Madoka,
Thank you for your message. The RSA course in Victoria must be complete face to face at a recognised institution. Some companies are suggesting you can do an online RSA certificate which is recognised interstate and then simply complete the RSA Refresher online to make it valid in Victoria. I do not believe this is legally accepted by the Victorian government however some companies appear to be manipulating the system so you would have to check with the specific company to assure you that this is accepted. I recommend you do it in person with a Victorian registered training organisation to ensure that it is accepted.
I completed a Nationally Recognised training program back in 2004 for my RSA in Victoria, which was done face to face. My question is is the RSA still valid or do i have to do a refresher course?
Hi Erynne,
Thanks for your message. You will definitely have to do the rsa refresher course or perhaps complete the actual course again. The RSA Refresher is a free course which you complete online.. check out this page RSA Refresher and there is a direct link to where you can complete the course online. An RSA refresher course is supposed to be done every three years however it does not stipulate anywhere online what happens if you don’t renew your certificate every three years. Alcohol Victoria does say on their website that “Licensees and staff selling, offering or serving liquor for general, on-premises, packaged liquor and late night licenses are required to complete the approved RSA online refresher course within three years of completing their last RSA program” so it would be best to actually check with them whether you’re covered or whether you actually have to complete the entire course again – bit of a pain I know, but they will help clarify this for you. Sorry I couldn’t give you a definitive answer but I hope this suggestion has helped!
