do you need to do the RSA course to be able to do waitressing in australia?
Hi Sarah,
Thanks for your message. This is a bit of a hard question to answer because it really depends on where you will be waitressing. Generally to be a waitress in a restaurant you don’t have to do your RSA if you are only serving food.
However if you are working in a restaurant that has a license to serve alcohol and you are required to serve alcoholic drinks to customers at any stage then most employers will want you to have an RSA certificate because authorities are getting pretty strict with staff serving alcohol. I wish I had a more concrete answer for you, but it really depends on where you want to get a job.
An RSA certificate is always good to have because it means that you will be eligible to get a waitressing job at any place that serves alcohol, but if you’d prefer not to do it, then maybe ask the manager at the place you want to work, whether it is a requirement of employment?
Hope this helps!
